Since not everyone has a coach at their disposal to guide them in finding and following their lights, I want to show you two things that you can do right now to find out what lights you up. Use observation to find out what you love doing. Watch your body: what are the activities that make you feel good? When do you relax and when do you get tense? For example, think about one of your most pressing problems and observe what happens to your body. If you want, describe the feelings and sensations in a notebook. Now, think about something you love doing. This can be anything from sleeping in in the mornings to having a wonderful dinner with your spouse, or watching a sunset.

How do you know what lights you up?
Miss a clue and you may not solve your problem—and as busy as we all are, it is so easy to miss clues. They are all around us; every day and every shift. When we have a better understanding of answers to these questions we can direct our time towards more of those things. We can steer our team members to more time in those areas. But we have to be aware of the clues. When we get excited about something our heart beats a little faster, our body produces a little, or a lot, more energy.
The new year inspires reflection and resolutions. We take stock of the last twelve months noting the highs and the lows. Often these feelings about the year inspire lofty new year resolutions.
