Imagine walking down the streets of Tokyo in the late s. What hot new cassette is loaded in your Walkman as you traverse down Shibuya Crossing on your way to a tea shop? It tells the story about a girl who wants to merely have fun, rather than committing to real love hence plastic or fake love. In true city pop form, the track has a great electronic beat, with a runtime of 7 minutes and 56 seconds. Nearly 8 minutes of pure Japanese joy. It really takes you back to a simpler time, where the music was good, the food was good, and the future was bright. This nostalgic feel is almost non-describable, as experienced when watching a Hayao Miyazaki film for the first time. You are commenting using your WordPress. "THE STINGING TRUTH"
The Drum is launching a series looking at audio excellence, sonic innovation and voice storytelling - ideas that show the breadth of what can be done with audio. This week Spotify chooses its top 10 ideas - from creative 30 second audio spots to immersive voice games using connected devices. An immersive gaming skill allowing Westworld fans to go on their own quest for consciousness. The choices the players made determined what happens next, and how the story turns out. The campaign created by Colenso BBDO and Franklin Rd consisted of three 'full-page radio' executions, each describing a traditional newspaper ad scene in tongue-in-cheek detail. The campaign gave Spotify Free and Premium users access to seven exclusive videos, each dedicated to different wildlife stories and endangered species from around the world. The collaboration also saw the BBC Earth podcast made available for listeners, giving them behind-the-scenes access to accounts from show producers and camera crew. The initiative included the release of an album with four tracks with ocean sounds , but created with plastic collected from the ocean.

W ant to figure out if someone is a psychopath? Now obviously that study is very far from conclusive and no reason to cut Beliebers and Eminem stans from your life. Nevertheless, you can tell a fair bit about someone by their music consumption. Spotify certainly thinks so anyway. The first bit, I mean, not the porn habits. Nevertheless, I find it depressing that our personal, private moments with music are increasingly being turned into data points and sold to advertisers. Or, in some cases, being mined for economic insights by central bankers. This year, the chief economist at the Bank of England said researchers were increasingly gauging the public mood by analysing Spotify streaming data.
Spotify , a music streaming company, has attracted significant criticism since its launch, mainly over artist compensation. Unlike physical sales or downloads , which pay artists a fixed price per song or album sold, Spotify pays royalties based on the artist's "market share"—the number of streams for their songs as a proportion of total songs streamed on the service. Multiple artists have criticised the policy, most notably Thom Yorke and Taylor Swift , who temporarily withdrew their music from the service. Spotify faces particular scrutiny due to its free service tier, which allows users to listen free with advertisements between tracks. The tier has led to a variety of major album releases being delayed or withdrawn from the service. Spotify claims it benefits the industry by migrating users away from piracy and less monetized platforms and encouraging them to upgrade to paid accounts.
